Bravery with Kara
Meet Kara - you can follow her @mini_goddess85
Meet Kara, she is the best dancer. She is so much fun. She is an OB/GYN!! (so cool) Oh.. and she is a Breastie. When we met she and I instantly clicked and danced the night away. I am honored to share her story.
Fifteen months ago, I got the awful news that the lump in my breast, the one I had ignored for so long, the one I was SURE would be benign, was actually cancer. Stage IIB triple positive breast cancer. 15 months later, so much has changed. Some days I barely recognize myself. But...cancer didn’t take away those things that make my life worthwhile: family, friends, love, laughter.
Here’s what I’ve learned: life is so precious. Even those parts that are painful, those moments you hope to never relive (hello crazy hyper pigmentation🙈!!) I spent so much of my adult life being afraid. Timid. Scared of what people would think or say. And now I realize that life is too short for that BS! Take chances, try new things, be brave! Tell people how you feel. This is what cancer has taught me. Recently I went to the Ana Ono Intimates fashion show this month, and I didn’t know a single person there. As soon as I walked into the after party, I saw Paige, so I put on my brave face and I walked right up and introduced myself. And because of that small act of courage, I ended up dancing the night away with some amazing Breasties, and I left New York with my heart full. I am now apart of an amazing community of women who have welcomed me into the fold, who understand me in a way that few people can reach out.
